The Australian cricket team is flying high as they have won all three of their group games played so far in the T20 World Cup 2024. They have defeated, Oman, Namibia and their rivals England.
On the other hand, the defending champions of the T20 World Cup, England are at risk of not qualifying for the Super 8 as their first game was washed out due to rain and then Australia defeated them in their second game.
Australia’s Josh Hazlewood, an integral part of their pace battery, in a press conference, stated that they would try to make things difficult for England as much as possible.
"In this tournament, you potentially come up against England at some stage again and they're probably one of the top few teams on their day. We've had some real struggles against them in T20 cricket so if we can get them out of the tournament that's in our best interest, as well as probably everyone else's."
The pacer was then asked what tactics would the team apply to get England out of the tournament, Hazlewood replied, "I am not too sure. You get close; you then just knock it around and drag it out. There are a few options."
He further added that the better option and way to make things easier for yourself is to win games.
"But as you said, to take confidence from winning and winning well, I think that's almost more important than potentially trying to knock someone else out,” he added.
Hazlewood still believes that England has a good chance in the tournament due to them being a good team, "(England) have still got a lot to do on their behalf as well, so I think it'll become clearer the closer we get to that sort of stuff."
Australia has already qualified for the Super-8s as they defeated Namibia. Whereas England’s chances are slim as they still have to play two more games in the T20 World Cup’s group stage against Oman and Namibia.
